The Xolo Cuintle duo create petrified, deserted scenes using concrete as a geological component emblematic of the challenges of our contemporary era. This favourite material, seemingly unchanging and inert, is sculpted like fertile soil in which hybrid organisms flourish. Using ornamentation as a temporal marker, each of their sculptures becomes part of a shared history, blurring the linear concept of time. Speculative in nature, blending contemporary news and ancient mythologies, their narratives explore a history of soils and the life forms that make them up.
After graduating from the Duperré school, the duo will take up a residency at the Manufacture des Gobelins between 2019 and 2020 as part of a programme with the Mobilier National. Xolo Cuintle have taken part in numerous exhibitions in France and abroad. In 2021, the duo was invited by curator Joël Riff to exhibit alongside painter Peter Marcasiano at Double Séjour (Clichy) and presented “Weeping Sun”, their first solo show at Sainte Anne Gallery (Paris). In 2023, Xolo Cuintle enjoys a second solo show, “Current Upcoming Past”, at Galerie Chloé Salgado (Paris), inaugurates the DS Galerie (Paris) showroom with the series of bas-reliefs “1 and 1 is 3” and enjoys a first solo show with the gallery at Art-O-Rama (Marseille). As part of group shows, the duo has been featured in several international fairs, including Alcova (Milan), Art Genève (Geneva), Artissima (Turin) and Unique (Paris and Savannah). In 2024, Xolo Cuintle took part in the group exhibitions “Revenir du présent” at the Collection Lambert in Avignon and “lunulae #4” at the CAC Brétigny, and developed the “Conjoined Cell(s)” project for La borne du POCTB. In 2025, Xolo Cuintle took part in several group exhibitions as part of the FRAC Île-de-France’s “Berserk & Pyrrhia” programme, as well as at the Centre d’art Les Capucins in Embrun. Xolo Cuintle’s works will join the KADIST collections in 2020 and the CNAP collections in 2023. In 2024, they will be commissioned by the Société des Nouveaux Commanditaires.
In 2025, the duo Xolo Cuintle presents “Chloroplast Machinery”, their first institutional solo exhibition, at the Centre d’art contemporain de Saint-Fons, followed by a new solo show at DS Galerie, “Pulses Within”.
