DS Galerie is pleased to present “Solstice Room”, an original project by German artist Kolja Kärtner Sainz, bringing together a series of previously unseen paintings specially conceived for the 2024 edition of Miart. The exhibition is a continuation of the artist’s solo show in Paris from November to January.
Kolja Kärtner Sainz seeks an ideal intermediate state where representation and abstraction can coexist. Exploring this intersection in depth, he attempts to freely interpret the states of the natural and the artificial and not to capture rigid moments, but rather blurs, movements and shifts in perception. As a result, the paintings seem to be inhabited by phantasmagorical beings. Sometimes architectural and geometric, sometimes organic and fluid, Kolja Kärtner Sainz’s works are enchanting in an almost shamanic sense. Through their movement and presence, the canvases call out to the visitor’s body.
The curatorial proposal for this solo show, “Solstice Room”, specially conceived on the scale of the booth at the Miart Fair, reinforces these phenomena with a hanging that engages in a dialogue between architectural compositions, ornamental references and altarpieces. It’s an invitation to enter the world of Kolja Kärtner Sainz.
