Sneak Peek
Opening
03.07.2025 — 18h
DS Galerie is delighted to be presenting the work of artist Pierre Dumaire for the first time, in a radical and atypical proposal: the exhibition will be visible from the street 24/7 until 20 July. “Sneak Peek” is an overview of the pictorial work of the artist who, after studying at the Duperré school, has just graduated from the Beaux-Arts de Paris. And to mark the occasion, three signed and numbered gravures by artist Pierre Dumaire will be on sale, with half the proceeds going to the Le Refuge Foundation.
“It’s an image of gay culture that might seem out of fashion in the age of apps. The bandana that displays sexual colour and preference, the hanky code, has gone from cruising to art with Hal Fischer’s Gay Semiotics, and even popular culture with Andy Warhol’s cover of the Rolling Stones’ Sticky Fingers album. (…) The artist’s fascination with this coded language of flirting is part of a wider study of the history of representations of LGBTQ+ desire and its place in the history of official art. Through drawing, engraving and playing with prints in unique assemblages, he takes on patchwork, a form that has a community history and is as much about repair as it is about transmission.”
