Pierre Dumaire studied at the Beaux-Arts de Paris, the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Vienna, as well as the École Duperré in Paris. He graduated in 2025 from the studio of Eva Nielsen and Mireille Blanc at the Beaux-Arts de Paris. His work has been the subject of solo exhibitions at the Ancien Évêché de Toulon (2022, 2023) and at the Village Reille in Paris (2021). He was an artist in residence at Villa Noailles in 2022 to prepare the exhibition “Objets Modernes”, and in 2016 he completed a one-year residency in the tapestry workshop of the Manufacture des Gobelins. He also published a monographic edition, Corps, souviens-toi, with Maëlle Brientini (2021).
Pierre Dumaire’s painting explores ambiguous landscapes and spaces, where certain details suggest uses and narratives that do not immediately reveal themselves. These places may be associated with practices of cruising without being explicitly identifiable, and are constructed through a tension between visibility and concealment, inviting attentive and sensitive viewing. He draws on iconography from gay visual culture, including that of past decades, which he reworks in compositions with diluted colours. The technique of painting on silk diffuses pigments and elongates lines, giving his works a melancholic and highly expressive tone. His practice also examines fabric and pattern as vehicles of language, notably through screen-printing processes that extend and shift his pictorial vocabulary. His prints further develop this reflection through recurring poses and figures—exposed bodies and references to historical or symbolic imagery—questioning the persistence of images and their reactivation in the present.
He has also taken part in several group exhibitions, notably at Couvent Levat in Marseille (2019), Villa Noailles in Hyères (2020, 2022), Galerie ODA in Paris (2022), Galerie John Ferrère (2023), and in 2025 at Galerie Marcelle Alix in Paris, Galerie 22,48 m² in Romainville, as well as at the Centre Pompidou-Metz, on the invitation of Elizabeth Peyton. That same year, he participated in the 23rd International Biennial of Printmaking in Sarcelles. In 2026, Pierre Dumaire will present his first solo exhibition at DS Galerie.
