Luis Figueroa is a graduate of Nova Scotia’s Nova Scotia College of Art and Design and Mexico’s Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León. His pictorial work develops a dialectic between being and space, exploring the construction of scenarios where various artistic and cultural currents converge. Through rigorous research into colour, his works integrate a plurality of contexts, reconciling subjective aesthetic experiences while evoking the autonomy and spirit of an imagined ‘place’. In his pictorial practice, Luis Figueroa uses figurative elements integrated into a continuum of colours, weaving together the different dimensions of his compositions. These figures act as active agents, shaping the specific decisions that define each work. Painting, as a medium, becomes a space of negotiation between the artist’s individual intention and the intrinsic nature of painting.
Luis Figueroa has presented his work in solo exhibitions such as Tierra de Luz, Castilla
(Monterrey, 2024), Fruto Amargo, Carnaval (Mexico City, 2024) and Residencia Temporal (Monterrey, 2023). His career has included group shows in leading spaces such as Kates-Ferri Projects (New York, 2024), Museo de la Ciudad de Querétaro (Queretaro, 2024), Galería de Arte Mexicano (Mexico City, 2023) and Anna Leonowens Gallery (Halifax, 2016), as well as events and art fairs such as Anillo de Galerías (Santiago de Chile, 2024), CLAVO MOVIMIENTO (Mexico City, 2022-2023) and FAMA (Monterrey, 2021).
