Hatice Pinarbaşi uses paint, materials and their support to highlight the power and politics of language through the use of letters, words, symbols, signs, numbers and music. She imagines a personal alphabet that cries out and forms hybrid bodies in a painting that has no imposed format or limit of space ; on the contrary, it overflows on all sides, even falling to the ground. Hatice draws on the animistic and ritualistic thinking rooted in her Alevi Kurdish origins to question our relationship to living things, to music, to words, to ills and their remedies. These paintings question the behavior and identities of our social bodies. She paints sentimental bodies by playing with a plural language that takes the form of pictorial and poetic onomatopoeia, to be heard and seen. A magical, spiritual dimension emerges, and language, poetry and nature assert themselves as the protagonists of her works.
Graduated from Beaux-Arts de Lyon and Beaux-Arts de Paris with honors in 2019, she has been painting in residence in Hamburg, Antwerp and Clermont-Ferrand. She won the Roger Bataille painting prize in 2020 and the Amis des Beaux-Arts de Paris grant in 2021. After a solo show at Galerie Gaudel de Stampa in Paris, she took part in the June Art Fair in Basel. Her work has recently been shown at Villa Belleville, Salon de Montrouge, Etablissement d’en Face, Galerie Parlement, Paris; Antwerp-Art-Weekend Gallery. Following a residency at the Villa Dufraine (owned by the Académie des Beaux-Arts), she exhibited a pictorial installation at the Monnaie de Paris. She is currently exhibiting at Frac Île de France, Credac in Ivry, Crac Alsace and Transpalette in Bourges.
