Works and lives

Victor Pueyo is a painter, trainied in architecture. Rooted in the real, whats exists, or drawing from references to art history, his practice explores the tension between painting and its inherent fragility. He paints with oil on an unusually delicate surface: eleven-gram cigarette paper. By allowing light to pass through, he reveals both the subject and the support, exposing their inner and intimate structure—gestures, reverses, the usually hidden, the corrections and hesitations. Eleven grams: the weight of almost nothing—yet how might so little speak of the world? Suspended in space, the paintings behave like veils, catching the light, approaching sculpture. When placed on another surface, they remain veils, but also become masks. Through the fragment—a hand, a body, a vase, a horizon, a still life—he attempts to capture the world around him. His work has been exhibited in France and internationally.
