Works and lives
Paris, France
After studying drawing at La Cambre (Belgium), Sacha Cambier de Montravel graduated from the Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he diversified his artistic practices, from painting and drawing to poetry and installation. Immersed for many years in a philosophical, historical and literary quest for violence and eroticism through sexuality, dissidence and collapsology, the artist also seeks to formulate a thought that is the plastic heir to the thought of Georges Bataille and Sade, as well as other older and more current thinkers who have shaped his imagination and his statements. Her work features paintings in a style reminiscent of the late Middle Ages and the Northern Renaissance. The first series deals with the problems of wild cruising grounds that are increasingly under threat; expressing their poetic, political and sensual drift through tales of ancient myths and in an aesthetic of ancient painting seeks to awaken awareness of the need to preserve these places just as precious as any other heritage. A second series speaks of a history of desire, pride and temptation through queer and fetishist codes, where the tragic tension of the unleashed body is set against landscapes that are fiery, devastated or enigmatic in the intensity of their silent yet present narratives. His work was recently shown in a duo show at Galerie Reuter Bausch (2024). Sacha Cambier de Montravel was selected for the 68th Salon de Montrouge (2024).
