Omar Castillo Alfaro
Works and lives
Paris, France et Madrid, Spain
Through a sculptural practice rich in gestures, Omar Castillo Alfaro draws inspiration from the know-how of his native region to question the link between art and craft, the narratives associated with it and its reception within the current European art scene. His research, like the materials and forms in his work, contributes to a decolonial reading of art history, generating a new register in his immersive installations.
After training in metallurgical and chemical engineering at UNAM in Mexico, Omar Castillo Alfaro graduated from the Beaux-Arts de Lyon in 2022 and was awarded the Prix de Paris, which enabled him to benefit from a year’s residency at the Cité Internationale de Paris in 2023. In the same year, his work was exhibited at 100% l’Expo à La Villette, at the CAC de La Ferme du Buisson, at the 67th Salon de Montrouge and at the Cité Internationale des Arts. In 2024, he was invited to exhibit his new Tototl installation at the Centre Pompidou-Metz and to perform at the Centre Pompidou-Paris. Omar Castillo Alfaro is currently in residence for a year at Casa de Velázquez in Madrid, ES, and in 2025 will take part in the ARCO Madrid fair.
