Clédia Fourniau graduated from ENSAAMA Olivier de Serres and from the Beaux Arts de Paris. Her paintings are produced using acrylic paint, mica and resin on canvas or primed textiles, which form a glossy surface producing an introspective dialogue between the reflected image and reality. The act of painting is fundamentally dependent on the process and the material itself, rooted in a practice of the body in action that is constructed in the studio day after day and layer after layer, in a distended and unpredictable temporality. She works on the serial and gestural dimensions of abstract painting, questioning representation and the conditions of creation, perception and reception of an image. Clédia Fourniau’s approach oscillates between a formal, protocol-based and accidental practice.
In 2021 and 2022, she received several awards, including the Carré sur Seine prize and the Sisley Beaux-Arts de Paris prize. She also received a grant from the Friends of the Beaux-Arts de Paris. She showed her work in 2024 at the Collection Lambert in a group exhibition, and had a solo exhibition with the KÖNIG GALERIE in Berlin in 2023. The same year, she took part in a group show at Poush, Aubervillier and at the BLANKgallery in Shanghai. In 2022 Clédia Fourniau took part in exhibitions at the Pernod Ricard Foundation, in the Vallois and Paris-B galleries, and at Sisley. She was also in residence at the Fonds de Dotation Weiss that year. In 2021 she will be exhibiting at Double Séjour, Clichy. Between 2022 and 2023, she will be part of the Société Générale Art Collection and her first institutional collection at the FRAC Auvergne (France), followed by a group exhibition. Clédia Fourniau wins the Reiffers Art initiatives 2024 prize.
